Student Sponsorship
Nursing Sponsorship Opportunities leading to Employment
Are you considering where to begin your nursing career once you qualify as a Registered Nurse?
Here at Rowcroft we work to make every day the best day possible for those in our care and we employ fantastic nurses in our Inpatient Unit in Torquay, in patients’ homes across South Devon and in the future, in our new Nursing Home.
Help you with your fees and other support
We can sponsor you while you complete your studies with a bursary of £4,250 per year (from year 2 onwards) towards your student fees. Once you join our sponsorship scheme you will have access to our award-winning professional training, the opportunity of a placement with our teams, and a mentor to support you in your final year.
You can have as much or as little engagement with us while you study as works for you. This year, as well as joining our bank team, some of our sponsored students have visited the hospice to meet key members of our team, been invited to co-present at a Hospice UK conference in London, and instigated the first ever masterclass for Plymouth and Portsmouth Universities, where over 150 students received an introduction to palliative care and the five priorities for care from our education team.
When you qualify, we will offer you a nursing position with us in one of our teams, with fantastic preceptorship, in a caring and supportive environment.
Working at Rowcroft
Dr Gill Horne, Programme Director – Care Services says: “I have been working as a nurse leader here at Rowcroft for 12 years and can honestly say it’s been the best part of my nursing career. At Rowcroft we can provide the nursing care we are taught to provide – the care you hoped to deliver when you decided to train to become a nurse. We are a welcoming team who care passionately about our patients and their families. It’s a privilege to work alongside our highly professional dedicated nursing teams and the other members of the multidisciplinary team.”
Vicky Bartlett, Director or Patient Care says: “I am so proud to be part of the Rowcroft Hospice team. Our people are highly skilled in palliative care, providing complex symptom management in a kind and compassionate way, knowing they have time to dedicate to patient care. It’s endlessly rewarding to be part of a skilled multi-disciplinary team, always striving to provide the very best care. We also have great working relationships with our NHS, other local Hospices, and private sector and voluntary sector colleagues. I am excited about the future plans for Rowcroft and the way we will use technology to support us to give the very best care.”
Ambitious plans for the future
As well as our excellent reputation as a provider of palliative care, we have ambitious plans to enhance and extend our care over the next five years to support more people in our community. These plans include a state of the art 60-bed nursing home (using the latest technology, and innovative working practices) and a brand new 14-bed inpatient hospice unit (see www.rowcroftcare.co.uk). We’d love you to be a part of this exciting future.

“There is no doubt that palliative nursing is hard. Especially as a newly qualified nurse. But I feel at Rowcroft, the teamwork and compassion showed by the staff I have met so far, made me feel like for the first time in my training I had found what I wanted to do and a nurturing environment whereby I would be encouraged to be successful.”
