Rowcroft is delighted to announce that its all-male fundraising walk ‘The Male Trail’ is back for a third consecutive year, and we’re once again calling on the wonderful men of South Devon to take part. This year’s Male Trail is being held ‘virtually’ on 19-20 June, and all men are invited to join in to enjoy a walk and a lovely cold pint with their male friends and family while raising vital funds for the hospice. Participants can choose their own route and distance, and then visit any of the six participating local rugby clubs for a free pint courtesy of Bay’s Brewery!
Rowcroft’s Events Manager, Alexia Croft said: “The Male Trail has been a real highlight in our events calendar over recent years, and we have been overwhelmed by the tremendous support that we’ve received from the men of South Devon. The event provides a great opportunity for men to get together to have some fun and exercise in the fresh air, and to do something special to support their local hospice.”
Most of the men who take part in The Male Trail do so in memory of someone they love – some of whom have been cared for by Rowcroft. Participants are encouraged to collect sponsorship money to support the outstanding end-of-life care Rowcroft Hospice provides for patients across South Devon. For those who prefer not to ask friends and family for sponsorship money, they have the option to make a donation to the hospice instead.
“Money raised from this year’s Male Trail will help fund Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home service that cares for local patients at home in their last two weeks of life,” said Alexia. “So you can take part in The Male Trail with friends and family, all the while knowing you’re helping people in your community.”
Rowcroft’s vital Hospice at Home service provides expert care and support to local families across the region – from Dartmouth to Dawlish and up onto Dartmoor – but in recent times the service has been overwhelmed by the increasing demand for end-of-life care. Rowcroft plans to expand the Hospice at Home service by recruiting more nurses and healthcare assistants in order to support more local families in need.
“We know that this last year has presented so many challenges for everyone, and particularly for those who have lost loved ones,” said Alexia. “And we’re so proud to be supporting such an important service through The Male Trail.
“In addition to raising money for the hospice, The Male Trail has the added benefit of offering men the chance to ‘walk and talk’. We have discovered over recent years that some participants have gained support and strength from each other during their walks, by having the time and space to share feelings and experiences. Given the struggles that we’ve all been facing over the last year and the associated impact on our mental health, this type of support is needed now more than ever.
“We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the wonderful participating rugby clubs at Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot and Totnes and to our fabulous sponsors WBW Solicitors, Little Ant Insurance and Bays Brewery for supporting The Male Trail this year.”
It costs just £5 to sign up to The Male Trail and Rowcroft asks participants to either raise or donate a minimum of £20 to support the hospice. To book your place, or for further information, please go to: www.themaletrail.com
