When is The Sleep Walk taking place? +

The main Sleep Walk 2022 event is taking place physically on Saturday 2 July. Or you can take part in the virtual Sleep Walk ‘Your Way’ at any time that suits you between Saturday 2 July and Sunday 10 July.

Where is The Sleep Walk taking place? +

This year the physical Sleep Walk will start and finish at Torbay Leisure Centre in Clennon Valley, Paignton. For the virtual event, you can take part ‘Your Way’ at any location to suit you.

What is the theme for this year? +

This year, the Sleep Walk’s theme is Saturday Night at the Movies! The event promises more fun and laughter than ever as you take on our fabulous sponsored walk, unleashing your favourite movie character and raising much-needed funds for the hospice!

What should I wear? Will there be t-shirts this year? +

All our wonderful Sleep Walkers will receive a free purple sash to wear on the night and this can be accessorised with your full movie style outfit.

This year we have added a Sleep Walk t-shirt on Enthuse (the website you can use to sign up for The Sleep Walk). Just before checking out, there is an option to add the t-shirt to your basket. You are also able to personalise your t-shirt and add a message on the back if you wish, at an added cost of £2.50.

You can order The Sleep Walk t-shirt when you register to the event, or by logging in to your dashboard at:

https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/TheSleepWalk2022/entryLink

Orders need to be placed before 20 June for you to receive your items before The Sleep Walk event. The orders can be picked up from Clothing your way, 115 Dartmouth Road, Goodrington, Paignton, Devon, TQ4 6NF. Or for an extra £4.00 they can be delivered to your home address.

As orders are sent directly from our supplier, items will not be available in Rowcroft’s high street shops or for collection at the hospice.

What adaptations have been made this year to ensure the event is safe? +

We are very excited to be back to a physical event this year, but to ensure the safety of everyone at the event we’ve made some adaptations to the original event. To maximise social distancing, we have staggered start times (waves) running throughout the evening. There will be plenty of hand sanitiser available and hand washing stations next to the toilets – we’ll be regularly cleaning contact points too.

You are now no longer required to wear a face mask, but if you wish to wear a mask while completing the event or while you are in any confined spaces, then please feel free to do so.

Please arrive ready to walk and please bring your own bottle of water. Due to the number of waves, it’s very important this year that you arrive no more than five minutes before or after your check-in time!

While we’re doing everything we can to make The Sleep Walk 2022 as safe as possible, we recognise that many participants enjoyed the option to take part virtually in 2020.  We’re also offering the virtual ‘Your Way’ option for The Sleep Walk 2022 – if you choose this option you can take part at any time and place to suit you between Saturday 2 and Sunday 10 July.

Can you describe this year’s route? +

This year’s route has been adapted and offers walking routes of five or ten miles. Each walking distance will start and finish at Torbay Leisure Centre in Clennon Valley, Paignton. Those who are completing the five-mile route will turn around at Preston Green where there is a marquee filled with refreshments. Those completing the ten-mile route will turn around at The English Riviera Centre, again where there will be refreshments to get ready for the walk back to Clennon Valley.

Clennon Valley

From Clennon Valley you will walk through the Velopark and then head over to Goodrington. From there you will follow the coastal path and beautiful scenery up to Roundham Head where this year’s familiar favourite ‘Lights of Love’ will feature. Every participant will be able to add a light to remember a loved one, and then walk back past it later on in the walk to see it shine. From there, you will head over to Preston Green and those doing the ten-mile route will head up to the English Riviera Centre for their turn around point.

Preston Green

This year our sponsors New Cross Health Care will be at Preston Green planning a Saturday night treat in the marquee at your five-mile turn around point. For those who are walking the ten miles it can be a stop off point on the way through and the way back.

English Riviera Centre

This year the turnaround point for the ten-mile route will be at The English Rivera. This venue will have refreshments and toilet facilities. From here you will walk back the same way to Clennon Valley.

What time will we set off? +

To ensure we have steady flow of participants at the event, when registering you will be able to choose your own check-in time – it’s very important that you arrive at the check-in point on time.

Your check-in time is when you will be scanned in to start the event.

Please do not arrive any later than five minutes after your check-in time. We appreciate that being late can’t always be helped and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.

Once checked-in, there will be a short event briefing and warm-up before heading out on to the course.

What is the minimum age to take part in The Rowcroft Sleep Walk? +

All men, ladies, girls and boys aged over eight can take part in the physical Sleep Walk event. All those aged 8-15 years must always walk with an adult aged 21 or over, who is a registered participant.  This adult can be responsible for up to three 8-15-year-olds on the day.

Participants taking part in the ‘Your Way’ virtual event can be of any age, and we advise that children walk with a responsible adult.

How long does it take to walk? +

The average walking speed is three miles an hour, so we anticipate it will take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete the five-mile route and 3 hours and 20 minutes to complete ten miles.

Can I sign up on the day? +

Yes, you can sign up on the day. The price on the day is £50 for an adult; £45 for a child.

Why are the prices higher for on the day sign ups? +

They are higher because this includes a £20 donation to Rowcroft Hospice as you will not have had time to fundraise, and the remaining fees goes towards the admin fee costs for on-the-day sign-ups.

Can I pay my sponsorship in on the day? +

There will be a sponsorship pay in station on the day accepting cash and card payments.

Sponsorship can be paid in by:

Will there be parking or public transport available? +

There will be parking available at Clennon Valley and this will be FREE. If this is full then the Quay West car park at Goodrington, is another car park that can be used.

Bus numbers 12, 23 and the GOLD buses pass Clennon Valley so if you wish to get public transport then these are the buses to jump on!

Is The Rowcroft Sleep Walk for women only? +

This year as it’s our 40th anniversary, we have opened up The Sleep Walk to all men, ladies, girls and boys to take part.

I am registered blind (or have a disability), can I walk with a friend? +

Yes, of course! Please ensure that they have registered too – everyone is welcome.

Will there be water available? +

In previous years, we have supplied free water to the event in thousands of single use plastic water bottles. This year to help The Sleep Walk event become more sustainable, we’re asking you to bring along your own bottle of water which you will be able to refill at taps along The Sleep Walk route.

Will there be snacks available? +

Yes, there will be snacks available. This year we plan to have bananas or sweet stops along the route.

When you return, you’ll be rewarded with a free bacon or egg bap and a hot drink. At each turn-around point there will be hot drinks and condiments available. You are more than welcome to bring your own snacks and sweets on the night if needed.

Problems

I want to change my wave time or starting location +

We will make every effort to help with specific requests and reallocate you to the same wave as your friends.

You can log into your Sleep Walk dashboard at https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/TheSleepWalk2022/entryLink and change your wave time (if there are places available), transfer your place to someone else, buy The Sleep Walk t-shirt or ask us to resend any of The Sleep Walk emails we’ve sent you.

I haven’t received my event pack +

From 21 June, we’ll be sending out event packs containing your walker number, sash and everything you need for the day. If you still haven’t received your event pack by 26 June, please get in touch.

Do I need to connect my fundraising page to Strava? +

Connecting a fundraising page to Strava isn’t required for this year’s event. If you’re taking part in the virtual Sleep Walk, all you need to do is let us know that you have completed your distance (we’d love to see any photos from your walk too!)

Run up to the day

Can I have a collection box or bucket to walk around with? +

Unfortunately, this will not be possible as it would require a collections license. We have a license, but it does not cover participants collecting donations from the public at the event.

I won’t be able to take part - can I pass my place on to my friend? +

We are so sorry to hear that. You can log into your Sleep Walk dashboard at https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/TheSleepWalk2022/entryLink and transfer your place to someone else (this option is available up until Sunday 19 June).

I’m dropping out - can I have a refund? +

Unfortunately, places are non-refundable but your fee will be used by Rowcroft to help provide comfort, support and specialist care to around 2,000 patients and their loved ones across South Devon each year.

How do I set up an online donation page? +

Creating a fundraising page is now easier than ever! Once you have registered to the event, you will be asked to create your fundraising page. Just add your fundraising target and profile picture. You will then be given a link to your fundraising page to share with your friends.

Can I turn up before my start time to have my face painted? +

Yes, you will be able to do this. The face painting will be taking place at the start point, Clennon Valley.

After the event

I’ve been given a cheque made out to Rowcroft - what should I do with it? +
