Rowcroft’s Brixham shop has adopted a new sales model, with all its stock now being sold for either £3, £2 or £1.
Last year, in its first full year of trading, the Fore Street shop generated £99,388 for Rowcroft Hospice, helping to support 181 families living with life-limiting illnesses in Brixham over the year.
Rowcroft’s Head of Retail, Caroline Wannell, hopes the new sales model will further increase the total raised by the shop.
She said: “Our Brixham shop is already very busy, but we hope the change will drive even more footfall from customers wanting to grab themselves a bargain.
“The shop is still fully stocked with a range of pre-loved items, including a wide selection of good quality clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac.”
Caroline hopes the new model will offset a decrease in the income generated by the recycling of goods that might not have previously sold in the shop.
She explained: “Rowcroft, like many other charities, has previously sold on stock that hasn’t sold in our shops to textile recyclers and other third parties, which has generated an income for us.
“However, textile recyclers have dramatically reduced their prices, which in turn has had a negative effect on this income stream.
“We have been looking to trial something innovative in response to this, and are hopeful about introducing the new £3, £2, £1 shop in Brixham.
“Other charities have tried similar models and have found by doing so, that their income has increased and sales targets have been well-exceeded.”
Caroline hopes Brixham’s customers and supporters will be excited about the new model and the chance to pick up even more good quality items at a bargain price.
She said: “We hope this new model will benefit the local community by offering more good quality, pre-loved items at prices that everyone can afford.
“The team are always really motivated to try new ideas that will potentially generate even more funds for the hospice.”
Rowcroft now has 16 shops across South Devon, including three Furniture Outlets in Paignton, Torquay and Newton Abbot, a new boutique in Dartmouth and coffee shops in Churston and Ashburton.
