Rowcroft is celebrating our 40th anniversary by partnering with Tubs Cottage Candles of Kingsteignton to offer bespoke handmade candles. We’re encouraging local people to buy a special candle in support of Rowcroft and to celebrate the care that we’ve delivered to tens of thousands of patients since the hospice first opened in 1982. Produced exclusively for Rowcroft, the luxury sustainable candles in lavender or lemongrass can be purchased from our shops across South Devon, with all profits going to care for local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Tubs Cottage Candles to offer these beautiful 40th anniversary candles,” said Rowcroft’s Head of Retail Caroline Wannell. “With all profits going to support the hospice, the candles are lovingly handcrafted from soy wax which is a natural ingredient and sourced in the UK. We encourage you to light a candle to celebrate the 40 years of Rowcroft, and to remember and honour all the people who have been supported by the hospice during this time.
“Rowcroft’s special anniversary year is the perfect time to thank everyone in our community for standing by our side through our incredible journey, to celebrate the hospice’s amazing achievements in providing expert care to people living with life-limiting illnesses, and to pay tribute to all the nurses and care teams who have made such a difference to people’s lives. Purchasing one of our beautiful 40th anniversary candles is a fantastic way to share in our celebrations while continuing to fund Rowcroft’s care into the future.
“Available in pretty green or blue glass containers, the candles also make a truly lovely wedding anniversary or birthday gift.”
Husband and wife team Kerry and Sam Jenkin-Carter of Tubs Cottage Candles make small batches of candles from their Kingsteignton kitchen using a renewable source of wax and 100% essential oils. Kerry, who has a long-term lung condition has been passionate about candles for years, but she realised that the candles she had been burning previously were made with paraffin which, when burnt, creates highly toxic compounds such as benzene and toluene – both of which are known carcinogens and linked to asthma and other lung conditions. Inspired to find a clean alternative, and after a great deal of research, Sam and Kerry decided to create their own handmade candle business and in 2020 Tubs Cottage Candles was born. Their candles are made from soy wax – a biodegradable source derived from soy bean oil – that burns cleanly without the release of any toxins, carcinogens or pollutants. Over the last two years, the small business has grown and the company now supplies candles, tealights and wax melts to the rest of the UK and Europe.
“Living in South Devon, we have always been very aware of the invaluable service Rowcroft Hospice provides,” said Kerry. “We have family members and friends who have benefited during a very difficult time from the help of Rowcroft’s medical staff and volunteers.
“It’s a huge privilege for us to be included in Rowcroft’s 40-year anniversary celebrations, particularly in a way that involves something we are extremely passionate about – making our pure essential oil candles.”
The 215g candles are priced at £19 each and are on sale now in Rowcroft’s 13 shops across South Devon. Alternatively, these can be purchased from our eBay store.
