What has a business selling paving, bricks and planks of timber got to do with a hospice providing end-of-life care? Well, as it turns out, more than you may think! Inter-Line – a family-run building supplies business based in South Devon – has been sponsoring Rowcroft’s ‘Hospice at Home Appeal’ in a generous gesture to give something back to its community by helping local people in their last two weeks of life. In this captivating blog, Inter-Line’s Financial Director Neil Robinson explains why his firm is so passionate about Rowcroft, and how Inter-Line’s fantastic sponsorship is helping to make an incredible difference for local people.
“We’ve been supporting the hospice for about eight years now,” says Neil. “We wanted to support a charity on our doorstep, and Rowcroft Hospice seemed the perfect choice as we think of it as family! It’s a charity that has always been close to our hearts, particularly because so many people we know – including colleagues and customers – have had loved ones cared for by the hospice. It seems that just about everyone knows someone who has been touched by Rowcroft’s care. Everyone has a story to tell. Rowcroft is intrinsic to the fabric of our community and that’s why we support Rowcroft in the way we do.
“For example, an uncle of one of my colleagues was cared for at Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit before he sadly passed away. The staff were amazing. They were able to wheel his bed out into the garden so that he could be surrounded by the beautiful gardens. The hospice itself is like a home from home. It’s such a calm and relaxing place and the team go above and beyond – not just for the patients, but for the whole family. The nurses are like angels, and they have such a deep connection with their patients and with the families. In just five minutes they can make you feel better! We don’t think our hospice nurses get the recognition they deserve. We simply can’t commend them highly enough.
“Inter-Line is proud to be sponsoring Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home Appeal. The Hospice at Home team do a wonderful job, bringing sensitive and compassionate care to people at home in their last two weeks of life. It’s brilliant that people can receive this care at home – in their own environment, with their family around. We wanted to push forward the Hospice at Home care, and that’s why we’re sponsoring the appeal. It’s so important that people can receive this type of expert care at home, so that they can make the most of every moment. We’d like to see Rowcroft expand this service to reach more local families who need this essential care.
“We’re so lucky to have Rowcroft offering specialist care to people with life-limiting illnesses in the South Devon area. I think it’s important for people to understand that this service is funded predominantly by the generous donations of our local community, and Rowcroft only receives a small amount of funding from the NHS. So ultimately, it’s down to our community to support Rowcroft to ensure that this type of specialist care can continue for the future. If ever Rowcroft has any urgent requests for support, for example if they need to buy a new piece of medical equipment, we will always do everything we can to help.”
With many thanks to Inter-Line for supporting Rowcroft over the last eight years, and for kindly sponsoring Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home Appeal. To find out more about the appeal, or to make a donation, please go to www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk/home
