Councillor Barbara Lewis has raised an impressive £2,886 for Rowcroft Hospice during her year as Civic Mayor of Torbay. Serving as Mayor for the 2025-26 term, Councillor Lewis completed her year in office in May 2026, having championed Rowcroft as her chosen charity.
Councillor Barbara Lewis held a variety of fundraising events
Throughout the year, she hosted a range of successful fundraising events, including a champagne afternoon tea in the beautiful grounds of Rowcroft Hospice and a community luncheon attended by supporters from across Torbay. Her efforts have helped raise vital funds to support Rowcroft’s specialist end-of-life care for local people.
Local community support is vital
Councillor Barbara chose to support Rowcroft because of its work supporting people with dementia which is close to her heart as her father had dementia.
Mark Hawkins, Rowcroft’s Chief Executive added:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Councillor Barbara Lewis for choosing to support Rowcroft during her year as Mayor and for raising such a fantastic amount. The money raised will help us continue providing compassionate specialist care and support to patients and families across South Devon when they need it most.
“At a time when many hospices are facing significant financial pressures and are being forced to reduce services, support from our local community is crucial. Thanks to the dedication of people like Barbara and everyone who supported her fundraising efforts, we can continue being there for local families through some of the most challenging times of their lives.”
Funds raised are enabling Rowcroft to continue delivering care through its Inpatient Unit, Community Team and Hospice at Home Service – supporting people to receive the specialist care they need, and to be where they feel most comfortable, surrounded by those they love.
