Light up a Life this festive season

This festive season, we invite you to join our ‘Light up a Life’ celebration and dedicate a light on our ‘Tree of Light’ to remember those you love and miss.

Peter and Sue’s story

Peter Bradshaw will be dedicating a light in memory of his late wife, Sue Bradshaw. Sue had received a devastating diagnosis in 2023 – an inoperable and untreatable tumour – and she later received support from Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home team, and she spent time in Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit before she passed away.

“This year, I’m dedicating a light on Rowcroft’s Tree of Light in honour of my wife Sue’s life. It’s a way to support families like ours when they need it most,” Peter shared.

“The Rowcroft staff were amazing; you get this sense of a really strong team of people working together. They’re so caring, holistic, and nothing’s a problem. The hospice is in a lovely setting, and full of dignity, grace, care, and passion.

“We felt hugely honoured and privileged to be there and being assured was a big confidence-boost for the whole family. Sue was in the right place, being well looked after.

“It’s hard to explain Rowcroft, it’s like a combination of an umbrella above you and a big fluffy cushion underneath you.

“After Sue passed away, I accessed the bereavement support service. They were caring, experienced and listened – this was invaluable and felt like a safety net. I cannot thank Rowcroft enough for helping me and my family.”

Dedicate a light in remembrance

If you’d like to dedicate a light in memory of someone you love and miss, then please click here. Everyone who makes a dedication will be invited to the ‘Light up a Life’ celebration on Sunday 1 December at 4pm in the grounds of the hospice where the Tree of Light will be illuminated as we come together to remember. You can also place a dedication in our Book of Light – a beautiful remembrance book which will be displayed in the Sanctuary at the hospice throughout the year.

Help Rowcroft to shine a light for others

Light up a Life is a chance to celebrate your loved one’s memory while also supporting your local hospice. Every dedication raises funds which enable us to continue providing specialist support to patients and their families, helping them to make the most of every day.

Rebecca Cogger, In Memory Giving and Legacy Manager at Rowcroft, shared: “Light up a Life is a celebration for everyone, not just for the families we’ve supported at Rowcroft. By making a dedication, you can remember your loved one and, with a small donation, help provide vital care and support to many local patients and families this Christmas.”

With thanks to our sponsors Wollens Solicitors

Rowcroft’s Light up a Life event is generously sponsored by Wollens Solicitors of Torquay. Chris Hart, Chief Executive of Wollens, said:

“Wollens is delighted to once again support ‘Light up a Life’ in 2024. The Tree of Life offers a heartfelt way to remember and honour loved ones who have passed away. At Wollens, we acknowledge the significance of this initiative and the invaluable work that Rowcroft carries out in the South Devon community. We are immensely grateful for the support they provide to individuals and their families.”
