Merry Thriftmas!

Celebrate a Sustainable Christmas with Rowcroft Hospice

Festive interior of Rowcroft's Boutique at Torquay HarbourChristmas has a way of sweeping us up in glitter, gift lists, and good intentions – but it can also bring a fair bit of waste along the way. This year, Rowcroft Hospice is joining the Charity Retail Association’s Merry Thriftmas campaign to shine a light on a kinder, more sustainable way to celebrate the season.

By choosing pre-loved gifts, upcycled treasures, and second-hand styles, you can enjoy all the magic of Christmas while giving a little love back to the planet – and to your local community.

Discover the magic of Thriftmas in Rowcroft’s shops

In Rowcroft’s charity shops across South Devon, our staff and volunteers are ready to warmly welcome festive shoppers into a fabulous world of sustainable finds. From beautiful, donated clothing and gorgeous accessories to stunning homeware and seasonal treats, there’s something for everyone. As Tracey Kennedy, Manager of Rowcroft’s Torquay Harbour Boutique, explains:

“Our beautifully laid out shop showcases a fantastic selection of great brands of donated clothing, shoes and accessories for ladies and men, topped up with our stunning autumn/winter range of new goods clothing, accessories and decorative homeware.”

And if you’re looking for a gift that lets someone enjoy their own charity shop treasure hunt, Rowcroft gift vouchers are a perfect choice. They can be spent in our shops or in our cafés, offering a thoughtful present that spreads joy long after Christmas Day.

A gift that gives twice

Every purchase made in a Rowcroft Hospice shop helps fund specialist end-of-life care for people across South Devon. Behind every pre-loved bargain is an act of kindness that supports patients and their loved ones through some of the life’s toughest moments.

As Tracey puts it:

“Shopping with Rowcroft helps raise much-needed funds for the hospice, helping to provide invaluable care and support to patients and their families in their time of need.”

Treading more lightly on the planet

Choosing second-hand doesn’t mean compromising on quality. It means making a conscious choice to give items a longer life, reduce waste, and tread more lightly on our planet. And in a season that often encourages excess, that feels especially meaningful.

Join the movement: re-use, recycle, and make a difference

The Merry Thriftmas campaign encourages small changes that add up: shopping sustainably, donating items, and celebrating the season more thoughtfully. This ethos is at the heart of Rowcroft’s shops.

And if you’re able to Gift Aid your donations, your support stretches even further:

“By signing up for our Gift Aid scheme we can stretch our customer’s donation by a further 25%, making more profit for the hospice! Ask at any of our shops for more information,” says Tracey.

Make this Christmas a little greener – and a lot more meaningful

This festive season, we’re encouraging our South Devon community to embrace the charm of second-hand shopping: gifts with real character, decorations that have already brightened someone else’s home, and festive outfits that don’t cost the earth.

By celebrating Merry Thriftmas with Rowcroft Hospice, you’re giving more than just a gift – you’re supporting your community, protecting the planet, and helping ensure local people receive the compassionate care they deserve when it matters most.

So this Christmas, let’s celebrate differently. Thoughtfully. Sustainably. Let’s celebrate a truly Merry Thriftmas.
