Every Moment Matters: Behind the scenes of our hero film

Highlighting the gentle acts of care that echo for a lifetime

When we launched our Every Moment Matters Appeal, we knew we wanted to tell a story that felt honest, human and deeply personal.

For many people, hospice care is understood through a clinical lens – expert symptom control, pain relief, compassionate nursing. That care is, of course, vital. But it’s only part of the picture.

Our hero film – made so generously for free by Goya Productions – was created to gently lift the curtain on the quieter moments. The deeply personal ones. The moments that stay with families long after goodbye. The moments that echo for a lifetime.

A story of lasting love

At the heart of the film is a bride on her wedding day. As she sits quietly, preparing for one of the most important moments of her life, she reads a letter from her father – written before he died. Through his words and her memories, we are taken back to her childhood: we see them reading stories together, building a den in the lounge, curling up side by side and feeling completely safe.

We see flashes of those precious times when Rowcroft was supporting the family. Our care is shown as it so often is in real life – gentle, calm and non-intrusive. There when needed. Respectful of family life. Helping patients be comfortable and pain-free, while protecting space for love and connection to continue.

A film about living, not dying

The film shines a light on hospice care beyond our vital clinical support, helping to create the space where families can make memories that will sustain them long into the future.

We support people to write letters, record messages, exchange cards and create keepsakes – helping them capture moments, thoughts and feelings that can be treasured forever.

Even in the hardest of times, there can still be laughter, tenderness and meaning. That’s what we wanted the film to show.

That philosophy – that every moment truly matters – sits at the heart of everything we do. And during the appeal, it became our rallying cry.

Bringing the vision to life

This project was a true community effort.

We are incredibly grateful to GOYA Productions for donating their services for free and for leading and producing the film with such care and sensitivity. They understood from the outset that this story needed to feel authentic and gentle – never overstated, always real.

Jonny Finnis from Goya Productions said:

“We are absolutely delighted that the film has achieved its goal for Rowcroft hospice. We set out with the intention of creating something that really resonates with the care that Rowcroft delivers and with the help of the incredible team they have I really do feel we achieved this.”

Special thanks also to the three actors Nicholas Benjamin, Meryn Evry, Sadie Geraghty (and mum Kate Patterson) for so kindly giving their time and expertise for free, to Rowcroft’s Healthcare Assistant Colin Easton for appearing in the film, to Kingston Estate for generously providing the beautiful venue, and to Caroline Edwards for gorgeous hair & make-up and Helen at The Bridal Box for the stunning wedding dress.

The impact

The response has been extraordinary. Shared across our social media channels – Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn – the film reached thousands of people. It sparked heartfelt conversations, prompted messages of support and inspired donations from across South Devon and beyond.

And together, our community helped raise over £211,000 in just 36 hours.

Behind that figure are countless individual acts of generosity – each one helping to ensure that more families can be supported when time is precious.

This film was more than part of a campaign. It became a reminder of what hospice care truly represents: compassion, connection and the unwavering belief that every single moment counts.
