Would you like to help at the very heart of our hospice?
Our reception area is busy with visitors, admissions, deliveries and phone calls, as well as regular visits from staff in need of something – usually urgently!
We are looking for volunteers to work alongside our full-time reception team, and help provide a warm, friendly, calm and organised response to everyone who walks through the door, or calls us on the phone. For many people this is their first contact with Rowcroft and a good experience is essential.
You may be escorting people through to the in patient unit, answering the phone, greeting and signing-in visitors and providing general support to the reception team. Ideally you will have some background in similar roles and be proactive, professional, discrete and non-judgemental.
You may at times meet people who are very unwell or distressed.
Full induction and training will be provided. If you’re not sure if this is for you, then you can always do a trial shift to see what’s really involved.

We currently need more help on the weekends. Weekends tend to be quieter and you are more likely to work alone on the desk once you are comfortable to do so (with other staff always available on the ward).
Shifts are usually 9am – 1pm or 1pm – 5pm but we can be flexible. On weekends, we ask that you cover just 1 or 2 shifts per month.
